Individual training: Buy 1 hour, get the 2nd hour free!
Here's the deal: One hour tutoring sessions always seem to take two hours anyway, and two hours of computer technobabble seems to be about the cranial-capacity limit for most folks. Call for an appointment, and we'll schedule a two-hour class at your convenience. Be advised: There are bound to be some interruptions (phone calls and drop-ins), but these can serve as welcome breaks and may help to prevent information overload. We'll do our best to keep interruptions to a minimum and stay focused on your goals. If we go a little over two hours, that's okay, too.

Here's the plan: Bring a list of questions with you; these can be anything from specific functions to basic operations, internet and email questions to security concerns. We will address each question on your list to your satisfaction, until we've run out of questions and/or run out of time. While we're at it, we'll evaluate your system and discuss maintenance routines and workflow options. If we can help with a specific application program, we'll do that, too, provided it's an application we're familiar with. Doesn't hurt to call and ask - or - fill out the dreaded email form below and email us.

If you would like to bring your computer along, please do so. (We have most cables, keyboards, power supplies and adapters that may be necessary.) Otherwise, we have guest machines available and an 8-foot screen we can use, if necessary.

Compact course presentations for group attendance:
Subjects include those outlined below, but other specific OS and application topics may also be explored at your request. Group classes are small - up to 16 people or so - casual, comfortable and private. Registration and contact information is required, active participation is encouraged, and evening class schedules are arranged for maximum convenience of attendees. Classes typically employ one or more Keynote presentations on the MacShack's 8-foot screen, followed by real-time internet, application, or Operating System presentations (as appropriate), with discussions and short breaks between segments. Courses are designed to run for two hours but may easily take three or more, allowing for questions and discussion.

Course materials, topics and schedules are continuously updated and subject to change (along with everything else these days), selected by need, demand and/or recent developments. These include course outlines, class handouts (CDs in some cases), and special access to online resources along with email support. While some processes are best learned by rote, primarily emphasis is placed on promoting a fundamental understanding of each subject, in hopes of fostering intuitive use of OS and client software, computer and peripheral devices.

Novice computer users, and those wishing to become more familiar with the Macintosh and MacOS, are encouraged to consider nCity's Computer Cognition Course (aka "3C").

If you are familiar with personal computers and making the change to a current Macintosh (or even thinking about it), we have a short course called "Moving to Mac" designed to acquaint you with the MacOS, the OSX interface and current technologies - as well as new developments on their way to a desk near you.

Other classes include buying and selling on eBay, our "Piracy and Privacy" course for anyone connected to the internet, and the "Intro to AppleScript" course which is focused on the Phlink™ telephone device from Ovolab. (This course also touches on home security and automation).

Please feel free to use the registration form below to address any concerns or suggestions you may have. If you wish, indicate any classes you may be interested in (each of which has more info available from links posted in sidebar). We look forward to hearing from you!

Schedule Information:
We work best on short notice; spur-of-the-moment requests are actually preferred, especially for individuals and/or couples. Larger classes (up to 16 people) require a bit more lead time and preparation, so a week's advance notice is appreciated.

If you would like to discuss course options, individual instruction, or schedule a group class, please give us a call, drop us a line, or pay us a visit at the MacShack.
